Pluto the dwarf, not the dog or the official planet in our solar system

since last week, Pluto (our ninth planet) has been stripped of its title in the solar system as the nine planet but demoted to become a dwarf planet. i used to be taught "My Very Excellent Mother Just Serves Us Nine Pies" to remember the solar system (the order of the planets in order starting from the one nearest to Sun0. i have to 'cancel' my atlas book on the information on Pluto.... "my very excellent mother just serves us nothing ?"..... *sigh* does it really matter for those in astronomy to be concerned of this re-ranking now? for once i thought there is going to be 10 planets (instead of 9) in the solar system since they make the discovery of a new planet in our solar system early this year. poor kids (in school), they will be confused for a long while. lucky for me, my girl still does not understand the solar system now... i hope there is no more big blunder...

Update: Japan reports battery fire in Mac - by Reuters

just a few weeks after the report on Dell laptops... see here Apple computer notebooks are facing the same problem with Sony batteries. The Japanese government said Tuesday that it knew of one case in Japan of a Sony made battery used in an Apple Computer notebook overheating and catching fire. The incident, resulting in a minor burn to the person's finger, happened in April. The government said last week there had been two cases of Sony-made batteries used in Dell notebooks catching fire in Japan, but no one was injured. The report on Tuesday comes after Apple said last week that it will recall 1.8 million lithium ion notebook PC batteries that use battery cells made by Sony. The Apple recall follows an even larger one earlier this month by No.1 PC maker Dell of 4.1 million lithium ion batteries, which were also produced using Sony cells, the main component of the battery pack. The Tokyo-based electronics and entertainment conglomerate has said the two recalls will cost it $171 m

the newer Bangkok,,,with JetStar Asia

Image
i was in Bangkok from 21 Aug to 24 Aug 2006....flying thru Jet Star Asia... for a short 2hr30min flight... it's ok without food and drinks. just eat and pee before your board the plane. stayed in Amari Watergate Hotel, thanks to my wife (her training), I got free lodging. (Amari Watergate Hotel, Deluxe Room, all thumbs up!) (View from our hotel room) a good hotel, within the shopping district. should be a good spot to stay... full thumbs up :) my last recollection of Bangkok was year 2001. within 5 years, MBK is not the number one shopping arena anymore. shopping centres and food centers (in shopping centers) are sprouting everywhere. they are so huge in size and experience that make our Suntec City or VivoCity (maybe) look liked 'peanuts'.... check out Siam Paragon and CentralWorld (not fully completed at the time i was there but it has opened). read on...

Look back when future comes

last sunday i was at this Buddhist Temple with my family, praying to my mum. we were chatting on the advancement of the temple's facilities. the paper 'tablet' that is used to write her name was generated through a database and printed on a standard format (not handwritten like the olden days). each tablet is given a number for easy tracking. we were comtemplating that the near future will be giant plasma TV replacing these tablets. if space is a constraint, my sis was suggesting that a system that can recall tracking numbers of these 'virtual tablets', these 'virtual tablets' can then be viewed from a screen, probably by then a plastic film (monitor) that can be 'sticked' to the wall. let's look back this article in 5 to 10 years' time. the future.... anything after today is the future. we often have little collection of the past (even yesterday) as we gets older. isn't is great to leave an experience now where it can be a memory in the

Help! My laptop is on fire!

this is an interesting article from Digital Life (The Straits Times) dated 8 Aug 2006 page 8. "The spontaneous combustion of several Dell machines has resulted in more than 200,000 laptop batteries being recalled worldwide. ...... ..... Dell computers are not the only ones with batteries overheat. Reports of an Apple Macbook going up in flames.... ...Since last January, big name computer makers Apple, HP and Dell, collectively recalled more than 200,000 laptop batteries around the world. ..."The cathode of lithium-ion batteries is prone to spontaneous thermal decomposition above certain temperatures." This state of thermal runway, where high temperatures above 150 deg C spark more temperature spikes, is more likely to occur when the laptop is plugged into the main electrical socket, with the battery fully charged..... ...manufacturers are starting to pay more attention to laptop design, ...This involves tweaking the architecture of the laptops by adding more air vents

Fun, fUn or fuN...

"what is fun?" a simple question asked by Plankton to Spongebob...... Spongebob thought for a while...errr, ermmm....."Friends, U & me N aNyone, aNywhere!" Plankton (the bad creature in this show) exclaimed, "Fire, Uranium and No survival is FUN!" craxy but surely a thought to think about. when is the last time you had FUN? 10 years ago, FUN to me is to be Filthy rich, Unlimited money and No worries on cash to spend .....hahaha.... now? FUN is with Family, Unlimited amount of time to stay together and No worries on the work that is going to pile up. a simple word that has a whole lot of different meanings everyday. it's fun For U to Notice :)

Chinese way of studying life (CSL)

after watching this show "V for Vendetta", i finally decided to speed up the process of another site that i have always been interested and would like to share. Chinese way of Studying Life through Fengshui and Bazi, etc. if you have any problems and would like to resolve, please see the link. all feedback are welcome. coming back to "V for Vendetta", it is a show that requires a lot of attention and thinking, not for those who wanted a lighter side to relax. a great quote from this show "art used lies to tell the truth, politicians use lies to hide the truth". hmm...interesting yah?!

slept 3 times yesterday night

within 10 hours, i have slept 3 times yesterday. thanks to my girl. she has been coughing...(could be contracted from me)....i slept with her at 10pm (1st) then she woke up to vomit.... cough until vomit, very poor thing. .... around 2.30am (2nd) she woke up again asking for milk, becos everything was out when she vomit. Tiring 3 days...counting down

starting today, i am on my own to look after my girl. my wife is enjoying her office retreat at some resort in Thailand....good life... presumably will be a tiring 3-days for me... *sigh* my cough is still there, i can 'feel' the 'lump' of liquid-like thingy in the throat..... eeeeEEE. KL trip was incredible, i took aeroline bus up from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur (starting 8am, reached 1.30pm)..... meeting 2.30pm....finished at 3.30pm.... tried to book a bus back for 6.30pm...fully SOLD OUT! luckily my colleague, George was good enuff to fetch me around to hunt for tickets....finally gotten one at 10.00pm.......some 'SUPER' bus, quite spacious but no facilities. Comparing to aeroline, aeroline comes with one drink, one food, power points for your electronic gadgets, and even pillow.... though more expensive but better since it is non-stop and there is an in-bus toilet. coming back, this 'SUPER' bus was spacious but i just could not sleep, i miss my pillo
