Society pest or pure envy?

We are all working to make a living. You give 8 to 10 hours a day to make sure that income is able to give you a roof and food. That income needs to be bigger if you have a family to feed with your parents. Are we really working to contribute to better society? In many stages, we still need money.  I was watching a CNA undercover series on Online Scam, mainly from India. It is a flourishing industry and many Indians know that it is wrong to scam but they did it to survive. It is morally wrong but they need to survive.  Survival will lead to unscrupulous means. Are they wrong? Who will help them if they die of hunger? No one in actual terms.  If we have that income to survive hunger and having a roof over our head, then we can talk about being noble or contributing to our society.   However, if I have that passive income, do I really want to CONTRIBUTE? Shouldn't we start enjoying our life after that many years of slogging?  Many will label us as society pes...

What's next after retirement?

I have been contemplating to quit my day job and in search of a less stressful job.  Many of us worked to pay off debts (which we should not accumulate) or struggle to make ends meet.  But have you ever wondered: What's next after you paid off that debt?  What's next after your kids grew up?  What's next after you accumulated enough retirement fund?  What's next when you reached retirement age?  My parents taught me that working is a way of life to bring up our kids and pay that car / house. Hard work will pay off.  I am not taught of investing for passive income. I am not taught that we can don't work if needed. Even with passive income, we always felt that we need to work cos that's the only way that we felt that we are useful to society.  Does society care for you?  How much is enough for you to stop work?  Is working the only way of life?  In most cases, when we don't work, we save a lot of unnecessary expenses. I bet you can ev...

Simple life is not Minimalism

Extracted from https://www.theminimalists.com/minimalism/ " Minimalism is a tool that can assist you in finding freedom. Freedom from fear. Freedom from worry. Freedom from overwhelm. Freedom from guilt. Freedom from depression. Freedom from the trappings of the consumer culture we’ve built our lives around. Real freedom. That doesn’t mean there’s anything inherently wrong with owning material possessions. Today’s problem seems to be the meaning we assign to our stuff: we tend to give too much meaning to our things, often forsaking our health, our relationships, our passions, our personal growth, and our desire to contribute beyond ourselves. Want to own a car or a house? Great, have at it! Want to raise a family and have a career? If these things are important to you, then that’s wonderful. Minimalism simply allows you to make these decisions more consciously, more deliberately." At first, I thought minimalism is for me. To certain extent, I think I can be a minimalist. I do...
